The Archeological Museum of Olympia

Is counted amongst the most cherished museum in Greece. Founded in 1882 and completed 6 years later, it was the first museum in the young nation of Greece to be opened  outside of Athens. The museum houses many priceless artifacts from the site of ancient Olympia and the region of wider western Greece, such as

  • The Hermes and Infant Dionysus by Praxiteles  

  • The Nike of Paionios

  • The Winged Gorgoneion

  • A remarkable terracotta statue of Zeus carrying Ganymedes

  • Pediments from the Temple of Zeus,  depicting the chariot race between Pelops and Oenomaus as well as the Centauromachy
